SmartLync is based on the
concept of "distributed
intelligence". By
putting a microprocessor on
the SmartLync Card,
interface electronics can
now locally manage device
functions so the main
controlling PC doesn't have
to handle the device
"details".
A
communications link connects the
SmartLync Cards to a PC via an
RS-485 multi-drop network.
Commands and responses are all
funneled through the PC in a
master-slave relationship.
However, with the SmartLync
system, it is now possible to
send unsolicited event messages
to the PC from any SmartLync
Card. This approach
completely eliminates polling
techniques that plagues older
RS-485 communication links by
adding unnecessary congestion to
the communication pathways and
bogging down system performance.
Keep this in
mind - Every SmartLync Card will
operate independently (without
the PC, PCNet Card or the
USB/RS-485 wiring).
